I think I'll remove the "kill" code in its present form - tweaking it with delays or counters is not going to cover all situations of different power CPU's/Systems and speeds of internet links and it will become a persistent problem never quite solved. The only downside is that after large gaps of 15-20 secs the stream will become choppy and user will have to stop & start Mplayer - press rewind |<< on remote. These gaps are rare.
That said, there is still a possible problem with the cache that is effectively at 0% - this may be due to a chain of processes Mplayer feeding into Flac or Lame.
