I've got a similar setup (gentoo linux). As it's running headless I don't have realplay installed. Instead I've made mplayer use the real codecs in win32codecs using this guide http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Rip_Streams_With_MPlayer (see the alternative way). Then I emerged win32codecs and mplayer, both with the real USE flag, which I put in /etc/portage/package.use like this:
