I've checked out the KQED URL. When I ran Realplayer it got connected to the following url rtsp://rmbcast.kqed-us1w.speedera.net:554/alias_sjose_abovn/broadcast/rmbcast.kqed-us1w/rmbcast_kqed-us1w_jan112002_1500_62488.rm
This played find through mplayer but the mime type of the stream was described as "audio/x-pn-realaudio". My patch checks for the following mime type "audio/x-pn-realaudio-live" which is used for live streams so my patch ignores this type of stream and so if KQED is dropping packets, my patch would not fix it up. I included this check to ensure that Mplayer behaviour was limited to the live streams that were causing a problem.
