Thought about it, and had some discussions with Tony Cebzanov (who has experience implementing a synchronized lyrics display on an in-car MP3 player - see http://empeg.tonyc.org/emphatic). We surmised that it would be difficult, largely due to how the Slimserver event loop works and the requirement for sub-second plugin display updates. We'd be happy to proved wrong on this, of course!
