Hi,

I had exactly the same problem - mplayer would work from the command
line but AlienBBC inside SlimeServer wouldn't without the log giving
any indication why.

AMD 3200+
Windows XP SP2
SlimServer 6.5 b1
SqueezeBox v3 and SoftSqueeze 2.3
AlienBBC installed in every which way suggested including mplayer, lame
and codecs
McAffee Firewall, AntiVirus and Privacy Service

Fiddling with the Firewall didn't make any difference even though the
mplayer, slim.exe and socketwrapper were all granted full access to the
Internet. Also the FW log didn't show anything interesting.

As suggested I uninstalled/removed all McAffee software, rebooted and
AlienBBC started working perfectly right away.

So I guess I'll rely on the FW that's built into my DSL router instead
of running one on the host and just keep the AntiVirus. Perhaps
somebody can figure one day how to tweak the McAffee FW, until then
I'll be running without it but have perfect Radio through my
SqueezeBox.

HTH
