After finally exracting the files from the Linux box I've discovered something interesting, the stereo wav file I dumped has an interesting characteristic.
One channel is perfect and the data is undistorted and play without dropouts, the other has regular ful-scale peaks, that create a burbling sound on the left channel only. If these were network related they would appear consistently on both channels surely? Viewing the file in a wav editor show the problem clearly, if anyone wants to hear it you can download a sample here (5Mb): - http://www.alw.audio.dsl.pipex.com/Downloads/r4f.wav No idea what's happening here, the .ra dump wouldn't play in realplayer, not sure why.
