Well... I will get it running with 6.5 once 6.5 has been officially released - I'm calling directly against the database in my Meedio plugin for speed purposes - and I understand the database has changed in 6.5.
This means I'll have to rewrite the db calls in my plugin once 6.5 goes 'live' - and as that's not going to be a while, I'm not going to do it :o) I suppose I could check the 'metadata' (? - can't remember off the top-of-my-headd) table to check the db version and change my sql calls appropriately .... but I also use the CLI for managing the playlist and I'm not sure what's changed in 6.5 CLI operations. So... I figured there are more people out there using 6.2.1 than 6.5 at the moment - hence my 'limiting' the plugin to this version.
