What version of AlienBBC have you installed ? The slimserver-convert.conf file is now in the Plugsin/Alien directory under the name convert.conf. It is set up for pre7 so I don't think you should need to edit it.
Run the mplayer standalong test to ensure that your problem is not related to mplayer install.
