I guess my point is that since there isn't an installer that you are
sure everyone is going to use, just a simple test for the *presence* of
mplayer is all that is needed. As long as mplayer in in the environment
path and is called it should work.

The fact that the mplayer folks haven't built a binary for mac in
something like 2 years is really the problem here. The old binary
doesn't work with alienbbc and obviously the mplayer project page is
the most obvious place to look for mplayer. This is the only reason we
are having the problems we've had as far as I can tell.
