What slimserver version are you guys using? I have seen similar issues with the latest 6.5 nightly's (on Linux) and I don't think it's an Alien issue. I have a large playlist with other radio stations. I see the same thing when I browse to this playlist and try to select a stream with the remote.
Note that some of my streams are Real Audio so they use the Alien installation of mplayer, while others are mp3.
