I tried adjusting the timeout, but it didn't have any effect. However, the replacement socketwrapper worked a treat. I didn't even have to adjust the XP firewall or Network Associates VirusScan anti-spam settings: just restarting the SlimServer with the new socketwrapper copied in place sorted the problem out.
