I also just used filemon to monitor all file activity by slim.exe and see what happens when I click the AlienBBC link. I carefully started recording immediately before I clicked, waited to ensure there was no other activity recorded, clicked, and then immediately stopped recording.
The log file is attached. I'm suprised at how many things seem to be opened as a result of the single click ... and how many things are not found. Hope something here makes some sense. My h: drive is a local FAT partition on Win2K, so there's no access controls or permissions that I can set (as far as I know).
