The reason is that it is in my opinion to big risk to modify the music files from within slimserver. If a bug occurred in this logic of the code it could potentially destroy someones music. Storing the info in a backup file at regular intervals might be an option though.

PUID's are as far as I know calculated by latest MusicMagic version and latest musicbrainz picard tagger and the resulting PUID is globaly unique and registered on musicdns.org.
