Sorry, I'm doing my usual thing and talking to myself (nothing like troubleshooting online!). So a few more restarts and it's there. Since I was looking for "SlimScrobbler" rather than "Audioscrobbler Submitter" in the plugins list, it probably appeared as far back as *ln -sf /usr/share/slimserver/Plugins* and I missed it.
It's late here and I should be working instead. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
