Thanks for the reply: I already sorted it out. It had been working fine, and lame is correctly installed, but when I upgraded to the latest AlienBBC version (to support the current 6.5x) it stopped. Turned out to be a permissions issue on the mplayer.sh file. I should check permissions more often - it should probably be the first thing to try in many cases!
