Hi Forum! See if anyone has an idea here;
THE PROBLEM - SHORT VERSION: Softsqueeze seems to NOT communicate the sample frequency (i.e. 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz etc) properly to the sound card. Other players do. Is there some setting somewhere I've missed? MY SETUP: I use the digital out from a professional sound card (Lynx IIa) to feed an outboard DAC. The sound card is in a media PC in my living room and I use SoftSqueeze as player (I have converted it to a service). To control Slimserver I use a Squeezebox 3. None of the outputs from this is connected to anything, I just use it to display what I'm listening too and to choose music. It is synchronized with the SoftSqueeze which is actually sending the sound via the soundcard on the PC. I want to use the sound card's clock out as a master clock for the whole system (so the clock rate changes everywhere when I play a higher sample rate track). The reason for this elaborate setup is to remove the audiophile shortages of the SB3 (cannot be slaved to a master clock, no balanced output, cannot handle very high sample rates). But the SB3 is a marvellous gadget for displaying and choosing music so I kept it for that. THE PROBLEM IN DETAIL: I have some music in 48 kS/s (DVD audio rips) and some in 44.1. When I change to a 48 kS/s track, the soundcard internal clock does not change - it still runs at 44.1. Sound will still play but at the wrong speed. I can change the clock manually of course, that works fine but isn't a practical solution for normal listening. To make sure it wasn't a soundcard/computer problem, I installed a RealPlayer 10 and tried a few tracks. When I use RealPlayer, it works fine and the sound card changes its clock to the sample rate of each track. HAVE TRIED: Setting SoftSqueeze to "Primary Sound Engine", "Java Sound Engine", "Lynx...". No difference whichever I choose here (except very annoying short gaps between tracks, no matter what I choose). HAVE NOT TRIED: Squeezeslave - because it reportedly cannot do AlienBBC and has too many other problems still. -- CarlOtto ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CarlOtto's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3581 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23967 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
