Good theory. It would certainly explain the difference in performance between the LastFM played and the SB. I'd assumed that the SB's ability to display buffer fullness implied LastFM would be buffered, but I may have jumped to conclusions there. If this is the case, it could simply be explained by a slow connection between me and LastFM (it's now averaging 300ms rather than 500ms and so may be better, but I can't try it until the kids finish watching TV!).
