On second tought, the simplest thing to do would be : A plug-in that periodically scans a specific folder for any new .wav file. If a new file appears in the folder, it displays a message on the squeezebox every minute. You can then browse the messages by date, listen to them, delete them or archives them.
That would be compatible with any answering software, any platform.
