I don't have OSX so this is general advice for Linxu/Unix type systems.
1. Open a Terminal window
2. Ensure slimserver is not running.
3. cd to the directory which has slimserver installed - it will have
the file slimserver.pl
4. Type the command

./slimserver.pl --d_plugins
--------------------
Messages should scroll up as slimserver starts up.
This way you will catch messages from plugins during their
initialisation.
