I've got a few other things to try as well, I'll keep posting here...
On thing which seems to help: remove the music and playlist path from slimserver's settings, enable MusicIP support. Do a clean, full rescan: this will only scan the MusicIP collection. All items should be mixable. Now, if you want regular support for browse folders, playlists etc., enter the paths again and scan for changes and new material only. After this procedure you should have all your collection, with all the songs mixable.
