1. signal 13 usually means there is no process taking output from mplayer or the process has stopped.
The fact that it works with wav commented out makes a difference is odd since your previous logs showed you were transcoding to MP3 with Lame and not outputting to WAV or have you changed something else. 2. Building your own mplayer is a good idea. Mplayer confgure routine will tell you if your compiler is OK.
