OK, I was away, so I haven't tried anything else since. Here are some complementary infos, if it can be of any help to anyone :
The tag problem was generated by "Foobar", which I used to calc replaygain values, mishandling french special characters é-è-à... Somehow it rewrote the whole tag, messing up these letters, and I don't know why, but this didn't show up in iTunes until the Update plugin changed the playcount and rate values, that's why I targeted it. But of course the plugin was definitely not to blame. Now I use "Tag&Rename" to set everything right in the tags AFTER having "replaygained" the files, and see! no problems. I found out about the scheduling problem because I just had a similar issue with microsoft's SyncToy (a quite handy little synchro-backup tool, free for windows users). I couldn't schedule it the way I used to do it for every other task (including iTunes Update), i.e. using the admin/PW account. (me being logged as "user", admin rights, no PW) Actually SyncToy only works as scheduled task when set with "user"/PW. So I set a PW to my "user" account, and it rocks. This looong speech just to say that it reminded me of the plugin problem, so I tried this way too, and it works!
