I tried reproducing this on my 6.5 version following a database clear-and-rescan and I saw no performance problems (I get results in around 7s even on a 450MHz laptop). Also, I've been using --d_sql a lot in the development of this plugin and I've never once had that cause a crash from SlimServer. I therefore suspect something else between OS, perl, DB layer and MySQL, but can't think what that might be yet. It might also be something specific to do with your database contents so I'd like to see about getting a copy of your database to see if I can reproduce it. Finally, I've not heard of any similar problems from anyone and I'd be surprised by that if there was a plugin problem. However, I can't be sure without more investigation.
