Are you *encoding* to FLAC on-the-fly? Yes, FLAC is very assymetric and while decoding can be done with little CPU power it's very CPU intensive when encoding. Especially with high compression, what compression (from 1 up to 8) is used? Maybe 4 is OK for on-the-fly encoding.
