I think the problem is CPU compatibiity - mplayer is trying to execute some instructions which your CPU does not support. One user with a similar problem (a VIA CPU) found an older version of mplayer worked.
What you can do is install version 1.03 of AlienBBC into a temp directory (not slimserver) and then test the mplayer in this dummy installation. If it works OK (i.e. no crash) as a stopgap replace your live mplayer by the older version.
