That sounds like the screen saver is at fault - are you sure you have the 'jump back on wake' screensaver selected? If you were in the LastFM menu before it kicked in, I would expect it to return you there. Now I can imagine the change I made recently leaving you in the parent menu to LastFM, but not in the playlist!
