I can't find any info on the Ubicom site, but i would guess the IP3000 processor in the SB is capable of floating point operations. I'd be surprised if all the native codecs (Ogg, FLAC, MP3 and WMA Lossy) were in fixed point. Also the sample rate reduction is being done inside the SB, i'm also guessing that would need floating point opps.
