OK, I've built mplayer from scratch and my SB3 is now playing BBC streams fine.
Still have some very very weird stuff going on with Softsqueeze though, I've tried it on two (XP, SP2) PCs and if I start it up and try and use AlienBBC on it, it will kill the network connection until I close the process using explorer. Very worrying...
