I think I understand.
I can't have a single library for Podcasts, as Phil's Podcasts and Alex's
Podcasts are in separate folders.
I can leave my Slimserver Music folder as it is, and instead create a totally
separate folder containing links to each folder that I want to be called a
library. So I instead need two podcast libraries, such as:
Libraries/
Alex's Music
Alex's Podcasts
Phil's Music
Phil's Podcasts
Live Music
Each of the folders those links point to must not have shortcuts within them.
I'm not sure I like the idea of a genre-based library system, for the following
reasons:
1. My genere tags aren't in good shape at the moment.
2. Can't really split my libraries by genre. My wife has some pop stuff. I
have a lot of pop stuff, but not the same artists. So I wouldn't want "pop" to
be a library.
3. Wouldn't want to add special genres to match the desired libraries, such as
"Phil's" - would require a lot of work. I see the libraries browse mechanism a
temporary thing until some bright spark adds general support into slimserver
code. It would be much better to be able to select a user profile/library, and
then for all code to see just the music in that library.
I thought that it might be possible to create a "library" plugin that simply
provides a mechanism to edit the slimserver.pref file (changing the music dir,
etc) and restarts slimserver. Rather naff, I know!
Thanks,
Phil
