Well, with three people not seeing the ' problem I thought I'd better poke at it some more.
The first thing I did was to backup and then remove all trackstat data - at which point one of my test albums starting showing the offending tracks twice!! Two other albums continued not to show the relevant tracks at all... Much more fiddling around followed. Eventually I did a full clear and rescan of the database, after which the problem has gone away. I have tried to repeat some of the things I did before to provoke the problem but so far have failed. I guess this will have to wait till I manage to recreate the problem! Thanks anyway.
