I find it very difficult to come up with a coherent explanation of why you get so many retransmit errors with both wired and wireless as the interfaces are different and using the wired interface also rules out all interference issues.
The only idea I had was that there was some incompatibility but this sort of problem is sometimes hard to track down. However I saw something similar once with a faulty network interface driver.
