Regardless of your brightness settings have you tried actually hitting the brightness button when the screen is blank? If that still doesnt do the trick, please restart your server and post your complete -d_plugins output as the other posting seemed like a shortened version of your output. Also, what version of the plugin are you using and what kind of player do you have? Any luck with using a SoftSqueeze player?
