A bit off topic, but I had his same problem. I systematically went through all of the plugins to find the culprit. On my install I found that Picture Gallery (one of the default plugins) was causing the random crashes. When I restarted LMS that plugin would re-enable. However, when I remember to disable it the LMS is quite stable again.
