I've had a further think, Bpa, and for now I'll continue with iPlayer 1.4.9 and Extras 1.9.3 (despite the fact I have your "report-short" repository in the Additional Repositories slot, Extras hasn't been updated to 1.9.5: should it?).
I've changed the settings for Live (actually has to be this way around: DASH > HLS > MP3 > FlashAAC) and In Demand as you instructed. I don't think I've seen clear instructions anywhere for what these settings should be in various circumstances, so I was never quite sure what they ought to be.
