I have now looked at the Squeezebox screen while listening to a program.
I have Now Playing set to show Time Remaining.

As far as I can see (it's a bit difficult, as my reaction times may be
slow) on Radio 4, the time remaining does not go down to zero but always
stops at three or four seconds.

I haven't checked any other ways of using a player yet.
