Not sure what you mean by stable.  Many stations using HLS are not
stable - they mess around witr the MIME types making it hard to detemine
the steram type because the station does not use the standard values. So
if there is a problem, it  is usually the station and not the player.

The plugin just takes the MIME type of the stream and if it is the
coirrect MIME for HLS, then LMS uses ffmpeg to process the stream. 
There is no code in LMS - so "stable" is not relevant.
You need to make sure you have the right version of ffmpeg for your
system and that it can play HLS.  As ffmpeg is independent of LMS - it
cannot affect any operation of LMS except where LMS wants to use ffmpeg
and even then at worst it will result in failure to play the stream.

IIRC The PlayDASH plugin was adapted fromPlayHLS by another user and
since it relies on a 3rrd party application to process the stream ,
AFAICT it has the same caveats as PlayHLS.
