yeah, you are right, of course.
i now issue the "shutdown" command before pulling the plug.
spotty has been steady ever since.
spotify device now appears reliably...

strange thing is that Android Spotify app rarely shows its own; luckily
i rarely use the app.
my own app which makes spotify web api always gets the device.
Windows Spotify app shows the device however, so i'm not sure what is up
(or down) with android version.

in any case, thanks michael for providing Spotty!
it really serves a need.
