I seem to recall that in the fairly recent past there was an issue with the "muslhf" helper when used on the Raspberry Pi. This was resolved by changing to the "hf" helper. I noticed today that my touch and one of my radios were not listed as connect devices so I tried changing back to the "muslhf" helper. This worked and the missing devices reappeared. Has something changed to allow this helper to work again?
No, I don't think so. The situation just is a bit more complicated. It depends on the Pi model you're using (1/zero vs. later), and the OS and libc version etc.
