Hi Alan Yes, it does run counter to the idea of the Squeezebox, an idea that I've completely embraced. But, (almost) every new technology step that is taken need to support migration, that is why you find combined DVD/VCR players and still find phono inputs on new receivers.
CDs doesn't cease to exist just because I have bought a Squeezebox and while I am perfectly capable of ripping the CD before playing it, my wife certainly isn't. (Well, she could learn if she wanted to, but she is just not interested.) Besides, it is not very convenient to be forced to leave the room when you are hosting a party, just to go to the computer in order to rip the CD that your guest wants to play. I need a smooth way of supporting both worlds, the old world of CDs and the new music server world. I like your idea of an add-in that support access to PC music hardware. Maybe it could also provide access to the TV and DVD sound that I would like to be able to distribute via the Squeezebox?
