BBC have been blocking non UK users using UK service via VPNS for many
years. This is mainly for TV rather than Radio. SmartDNS is usually the
one which BBC blocks most completely.

It sia game of "whack-a-mole" played by BBC and VPNs operators. BBC is
constantly searching for VPNs source IPs and then blocks them. SmartDNS
VPNs are usually much easier to detect and block.

So is it "temporary" ? It is temporary that it is still working. As
BBC (or Akamai) have managed to block VPNs using akamai, I think LLNW
will be also be expected to come up with a better blocking strategy.

When "Blocking" does occur - VPN operators reconfigure and try to find
an unblocked IP address, users then have to reload/restart their VPN
connections and so restore service temporarily until it is blocked
again. Repeat cycle.
