I feel for you & others here (eg bpa) who seem to have to battle with
unannounced changes to apis, firmware and so on, to keep yourselves and
all of us in Touch (pun intended). The Open software movement doesn't
seem to affect the likes of Google, Apple, the BBC and so on. All the
rest of us can do is try to test stuff, but it doesn't take the load off
you. Whilst I've used Chromecast and AirPlay, I stick with UPnP as the
only non-standard LMS protocol, since it is at least stable (even if
it's a rubbish standard).

All I can say is please don't drive yourself nuts adapting to things
over which you have no control (I have personal experience of this
elsewhere...).

LMS 7.9.2 on VortexBox Midi box, Xubuntu 18.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps.  2 Touchs & EDO.
LMS plugin UPnP/DLNA Bridge to MF M1 CLiC (A308CR amp & ESLs) & Marantz
CR603 UPnP renderers.
Also Minimserver & Upplay to same & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers.
Squeezelite to Meridian USB Explorer DAC to PC speakers/headphones.
Wireless Xubuntu 18.04 laptop firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with
Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver.
