The letter groupings come from LMS. LMS tells provides me a list of letters, and foreach letter how many artists/albums are in this group. e.g. A has 10 albums, B has 5 , C has 8 This would mean when Material wants the albums in the C group it needs 8 albums starting from the 15th
Now there is a bug where the sorts, roles, etc, are not passed down when looking for letter groups (so they are broken for Composers, etc). This will be fixed in the next release. But as to the order of letters, this is all provided by LMS. I use a single artist list - can you try this? Just to see if this issue is not present there? Also, there was an issue with LMS and unicode characters - so which version of LMS are you using? AFAIK, you need a very recent version - e.g. from the last week or so. Any chance you can try the version of Material from git?
