Or perhaps shuffle just the tracks that are being added, leaving all of the 
existing current playlist in the same order.

I think the plugin idea sounds quite useful in some situations.  It may solve 
my number one desire:

I want to play random music in alarm clock mode, but not repeat music from one 
day to the next.  I use "random songs" as a dynamic playlist currently, to get 
random songs, excluding some genres.  I'd quite like to tie it into some more 
refined queries via SQL playlist or trackstat plugins.  However, the alarm 
clock playlist selection is limited to static playlists or Slimserver's built 
in random mix plugin playlists.

I could create a playlist with random music in it, and then set this playlist 
for the alarmclock.  If the "Remove Played Songs" plugin were to be activated 
when the alarm clock fired, and were to remove tracks from that playlist (not 
"current playlist"), then the next morning, it would continue where it left off 
and I wouldn't get any repeats.
