Sorry but I don't know anything about the HA package for synology diskstation. Don't have access to that for testing. In theory it should work on HA, you just need proper setup of duckdns with let's encrypt support. HASSIO is just more convenient for most users as it provides the addons in a simpler to install form if I understand that correctly which helps reduce the amount of work to get things running smoothly. In the end as long as you can access your HA install from the internet using the https://yourdomain.duckdns.org and don't get any complaints about the link not being secure you should be good to go.
