I was re-reading the user guide and saw this:
Firewall precaution: CC players will obtain the audio file to be played by issuing an HTTP GET request on a webserver running inside the bridge. This means that the OS must not filter out these requests (usually port 49152, opened by the bridge). It has been observed on Windows 7 that the bridge must be run directly by the user only once by launching it from C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\CastBridge, to create the necessary firewall authorization. Without that, players might be detected normally but no song will be played. It turns out this was my problem. Perhaps a recent Windows update reset the firewall? I might suggest that a new trouble shooting link could be added to the screen to suggest this tip, and any others that may exist, as it's kind of buried in the user guide currently.
