Spotify streams at 160k. I use MP3 for everything else. The NAS has 8GB RAM, and only hits ~25% when starting a track. CPU and Memory settle to ~8% once streaming.
What's Spotty streaming to the players? FLAC? PCM? mp3? You could try to change the output format in Settings/Advanced/File Formats. PCM requires the least processing, but the most bandwidth. FLAC is a compromise, requiring less bandwidth to the players. mp3 could harm the quality, but provides the smallest bandwidth requirement.
