erland- by looking at the error log I determined that my default filter set had become deactivated. so by reactivating it my problem went away. but i was only able to determine this by changing my web interface skin back to default from fishbone. it seems that in the fishbone skin it's harder to navigate through the plug ins settings. also, there doesn't seem to be any custom skip icon in the browse pages even though I have it set to on in the settings.
