I always knew it was a can of worms - and now you have opened it  !

I have looked at that code for ages.

IIRC The code was supposed to show the program info if the user skips
back to start of a program as BBC provide start time and duration of a
program in the "Now" when first played .  However if the users pauses
and/or skips back/forward arbitrary amounts - it gets hairy as it can be
hard to determine what is the timestamp of the audio being transmitted. 
I thought I had it sorted but it was a pain to test - waiting for ages
to get program changeovers.  

I notice BBC on Web and BBC Sounds now only support skip back to start
of program - whereas before on Web you could skip back up arbitrary
amounts to 3 hours - and their handling of metadata is also broken out
into "Now" & "Recent Tracks".  Guess they had similar issues.

BTW for any other late readers to this part of the thread - skip back is
DASH only.  If you are pausing MP3 or HLS stream - I don't know happens
- I added metadata intended for "live" only.
