I just tried autoplay using Spotify Connect playing to an Echo Dot and it acts exactly the same way as playing to a Squeezebox. Songs get added to the queue but playback stops. If I use my phone as the player autoplay works but the queue is greyed out. So it seems that autoplay doesn't work with Connect.
