I've noticed that the BBC WMA are not very good at being UK only - whereas all the AlienBBC 5Live streams played the "uk only" messages, the previous asx URL played OK. I know here in Rep of Ireland - some streeams work for a few weeks and then stop.
The player in a browser is just a standard player - if you can hear the commentary on it, then you can hear it on Squeezebox.
